Tết Trung Thu is one of the popular festivals in Vietnam, and has been an important holiday to families in Vietnam for many years. It is said that originally, Tết Trung Thu came about as a way for parents to make up for lost time with their children after the harvest season.

What is the story behind the moon festival?

The central legend associated with Mid-Autumn Festival concerns the goddess Chang’e. This tale tells of how, long ago, the Earth had 10 suns, the heat of which ravaged the world with a terrible drought. At the request of the Emperor of Heaven, the great archer Hou Yi shot down nine of the suns, saving life on Earth.

Do Chinese worship the moon?

An important part of the festival celebration is moon worship. Most Chinese people grow up with the story of Chang’ e, China’s moon goddess. Though the festival is a happy time for family, the story of the goddess isn’t so joyful.
